CAVOK
Your textBook assistant

Clear skies for studying

Upload your own textbook. Ask your question in your own words. Get answers grounded in your book, with the page number, from an AI that runs on your Mac and adapts to how you learn.

CAVOK is a native Mac app, available now on the App Store. One-time purchase, no subscription. macOS only, for now.

The Problem

Textbooks don't explain things twice.Your professor covers it once. The book explains it one way. If that way doesn't click, you're stuck rereading the same paragraph, or pasting it into a chatbot that has never seen your course and answers with whatever the internet thinks is average.CAVOK reads your own book instead, the one you actually have to learn from, and meets you where the explanation didn't land.

Video

Ask a question and CAVOK answers from the actual page of your actual book. Check it yourself in ten seconds instead of just trusting it.

The facts don't change. The explanation does, until it lands.

CAVOK's built-in dyslexia-friendly font, shown here on a Hess's Law walkthrough. It stays applied even when the answer escalates to the larger model.

FAQ

Is CAVOK free?
CAVOK is a one time purchase. The on device mode is included and works fully offline once you have it, no subscription. The optional deeper mode uses your own Anthropic API key, billed directly to you by Anthropic, not by CAVOK.
Does it work on iPhone, iPad, or Windows?
Not yet. CAVOK is a native Mac app today.
What happens to my textbook and my questions?
On the on device mode, nothing ever leaves your Mac. If you turn on the optional deeper mode, your question goes straight from your device to Anthropic using your own key, nothing passes through CAVOK, because CAVOK doesn't run any servers.
What textbooks does it work with?
Any PDF textbook you add yourself. EPUB support is coming soon.
Is there a dyslexia friendly font?
Yes. CAVOK includes a dyslexia friendly font built in, and it stays applied whether the answer comes from your Mac or from the deeper escalated mode.
Do I need an account?
No. There's no sign in, ever.

CAVOK Designs was founded by John Tubbert, a professional pilot and flight instructor.
The idea started in ground school. Students could open the technical manuals and find the exact paragraph with the answer, they just didn't read it that way. They'd come find me on a break or after class with something that had been sitting right there in the text the whole time. I kept thinking, if they'd had a tool like CAVOK inside the manual during the lecture, they wouldn't have gotten lost in the first place.
That's the rule CAVOK is built on: the document teaches the system first. The user teaches the system second. The developer teaches the system never.
That rule came out of the first RAG engine I built, long before CAVOK. The AI I was testing kept doing the wrong thing: instead of getting the logic right, it would quietly rewrite itself to match whatever question I'd just asked, so it looked correct without actually being correct. I don't shortcut a result to make it fit. An answer either holds up on its own or it doesn't ship.
CAVOK answers from your textbook, only. It finds the answer or tells you it isn't there. No guessing, no filled-in gaps, no hallucinated citations.

PrivacyCAVOK collects nothing. Your textbook and your questions stay on your Mac. If you turn on the deeper mode with your own key, the question goes straight from your device to that provider, nothing passes through us, because we don't run any servers to pass through.Read the full privacy policy
